Dr. ANITHA ROY, PhD

Professor

Dr. Anitha Roy has completed her M. Pharm from Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, M.P., and her PhD at Saveetha University. She is presently working as a Professor at Saveetha College of Pharmacy. Dr. Roy has published more than 200 papers in reputed journals, presented numerous posters and papers at various national and international conferences, and won many awards. She is actively involved in both teaching and research, with 22 years of teaching experience.

She works on a multifaceted approach to identify various plant compounds that possess strong anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, and anti-cancer properties. With the advent of nanotechnology, they are involved in the design and assessment of nano-delivery systems to circumvent off-target effects in drug delivery.

Dr Punniyakoti Veeraveedu Thanikachalam is a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Saveetha College of Pharmacy, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS). He completed his M.Pharm in 2002 (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) from Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab and Ph.D in 2008 (Pharmaceutical Sciences) from the Niigata University of Pharmacy and Applied Life Sciences, Niigata, Japan. He has 12 years of academic experience and 9.1 years in research, including 6.1 years of Postdoctoral research experience from Japan.  He has received various awards, including the Best Paper, YIA, JSPS for foreign researchers, FRGS, Travel grant, Innovative researcher in drug discovery, etc., to his credit. He received 14 research grants (around 76.5 Lakhs) from Japan and Malaysia as an independent researcher and published 71 international publications, 3 conference proceedings, 15 patents, and 3 book chapters to his credit. He has presented and attended various national and international scientific meetings. He has guided 41 undergraduate, 6 postgraduate students as a PI and 4-PhD students as a Co-PI. His area of research interest includes drug discovery and cardiovascular biology.

His educational journey includes a B. Pharmacy from The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University in 2002, M. Pharmacy (Pharmacology) from Annamalai University in 2006, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Annamalai University in 2014.

Holding a Ph.D. in Pharmacy, I am currently honored to serve as a Professor of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the esteemed Saveetha College of Pharmacy, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, located in the vibrant city of Chennai.

One of the pillars of my professional journey has been my dedication to research and the pursuit of knowledge. I have had the privilege of publishing 42 articles in reputable, peer-reviewed journals. These contributions have garnered 152 citations, reflecting not just the quantity but also the quality and influence of my work. My h-index, standing at 7, and my i10-index, reaching 6, serve as testament to my commitment to advancing our understanding of Clinical Pharmacy.

In addition to my scholarly endeavors, I have been fortunate to be invited as a resource person for 13 significant academic events. These invitations represent not just a recognition of my expertise but also my willingness to share knowledge and collaborate with peers and students. My goal in these interactions is to foster a spirit of inquiry and growth within the academic community.

Teaching is not just a profession but a calling for me. I am deeply proud of my achievements as an educator. One particularly humbling recognition was ranking first among the teaching faculty of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Vels University for three consecutive semesters during the academic year 2015-16 and 2016-17. This honor was the result of a meticulous student feedback analysis, personally conducted by the Vice Chancellor of the university. It highlights my ability to not just impart knowledge but also connect with and inspire students.

Effective communication is at the heart of my pedagogical approach. My presentation skills, consistently exceeding expectations, ensure that the material is not just understood but also embraced by my students. My commitment to clarity and precision in my communication is further attested by my notable IELTS score of 7.5, reflecting my proficiency in the English language. I believe that academia should know no borders, and my experiences have affirmed this belief.

In conclusion, my journey as an educator and researcher has equipped me with the skills, knowledge, and commitment needed to make substantial contributions to the Institution I serve. My extensive research record, my passion for teaching, and my international orientation make me a valuable asset to any academic community. She received a Research grant from Tamilnadu Pharmaceutical Sciences Welfare Trust for her M. Pharm Research project. Owing to her academic accomplishments, she was awarded the “Best-outgoing student” by then JSS College of Pharmacy and now JSS University during her Master in Pharmacy studies. She was awarded both the B. Pharm and M. Pharm degrees by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Chennai.

Her Doctoral research commenced with the Founder-Chancellor’s fellowship and concluded with the award of Ph.D by Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai.  Another feather to her cap was the One-year grant approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for carrying out her Ph.D research. She holds hands-on clinical experience in Population pharmacokinetic (PoPK) modeling of therapeutic moieties which add to the new era of drug optimization for individual patients based on their demographic, concomitant medications and comorbid factors.

Additionally, Dr Nithya has an expertise with Pharmaceutical Patent review and report writing. Her post-PhD experience as a Senior Research Investigator in Syngene International Ltd, an enterprise of Biocon Biologics in the Bioinformatics Department is a unique feature she encompasses in addition to her academic accolades. She was one of the few scientists involved in the assessment of Target biology and Competitor landscape during her tenure in Syngene International Pvt Ltd.

Dr. S Prasanna Bharathi started her career as an emerging faculty member at our college, specializing in Pharmacology. She is a Pharm.D graduate and during her graduation, she performed specific initial observational studies on antibiotics and anti-anginal medicines in patients with diabetic foot ulcers and coronary artery disorders. Additionally, she acquired one year of experience working as a Clinical Pharmacist.  Currently employed as a lecturer handling pharmacology-related subjects. With over 1.5 years of experience in teaching and research, Dr.Bharathi has published a few scientific articles related to molecular mechanisms of flavonoids in once-therapeutics, drug repurposing in CVDs, different ESWL pathways, and Li-Fraumeni Syndrome. As a scholar, she tailors her focus to the field of neuropharmacology, novel molecular signaling in neuro-oncology. She has a total of 5 international publications and 1 national publication.

Dr. E. Bhavya has completed her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a specialization in Pharmacology from Sunrise University, Rajasthan &M.Pharm in Pharmacy Practice from VEL's University, Chennai. With a strong academic background and extensive experience in clinical research, Pharmacovigilance, and pharmacy education, she is committed to advancing the field of pharmacy through both teaching and research. Dr. Bhavya has more than 14 years of research and teaching experience. She has an extensive publication record, with significant contributions to peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Dr. Gopinath Sambasivam has completed his M.Pharm Pharmacy Practice from The Tamilnadu DR.MGR Medical University, Chennai, and Ph.D in Pharmacology from Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduation and Medical Research (JIPMER), Puducherry. Dr. Mohanraj Rathinavelu has over 14 years of experience in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, currently serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Saveetha College of Pharmacy, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (2006) and a Doctor of Pharmacy - Post Baccalaureate (2011) in Pharmacy Practice from The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

Dr. Rathinavelu has made significant contributions to pharmaceutical education and research with 51 publications and 3 patents. He has secured Rs 20 lakhs in grants for continuous education from national (AICTE) and international (ISPOR) agencies. Notably, he organized the IPA Annual Convention 2021 and the 12th IPA Student Convention 2022, receiving accolades such as the Best Teacher Award 2021 and Best Researcher Award 2019.
